🇱🇹 [Vilnuis #1] Drinking overnight

Lithuania🇱🇹 is one of the Baltic states, along with Estonia and Latvia.

Personally, I had heard of Estonia and Latvia before, but Lithuania was a bit unfamiliar to me.

I first learned about the country after becoming friends with a Lithuanian student

while on my exchange program in the Netherlands.

Luckily, she invited me to visit, so I ended up traveling there.

Vilnius Airport is quite small—it felt more like a large bus terminal.

My first thought upon arriving in the city was,

"Wow, this place is filled with exactly the kind of Europeans I imagined."

Since the Netherlands is home to many immigrants and

I had mostly traveled to famous tourist hubs before,

I was used to seeing diverse races everywhere.

However, in Lithuania, I barely saw a single Asian person during my entire trip.

The capital, Vilnius, is a small city,

but the streets were incredibly clean, the population density was low, and the city itself was beautiful.

Even though it’s not a major metropolis,

I thought it was a perfect place to experience a "small Europe" vibe.

On the first day, we explored the city and went out for drinks.

It seems normal in Europe for people to introduce their friends to one another when someone visits.

For the first round, we had beer.

For the second round, we tried a traditional Lithuanian cherry liqueur.

It was quite strong, with an alcohol content of about 29%.

And then, we went for a third round...

There was a green drink that I didn't try, but they said it tasted like banana.

What’s funny is that Rosé’s "APT" was a global hit at the time,

so we played the APT game, and the loser had to drink it.

(My Lithuanian friend’s flatmates was Korean,

so he had taught her a lot of Korean games and culture.😂)

They seem to have a lot of fun.

The most shocking part was when a friend suddenly suggested going to "eat pickles."

I was like, "What? pickles?" and it was literally a pickle—and a whole cucumber at that!

I was so baffled, but I ended up eating the whole thing.

I’m still not sure why they eat pickles after drinking, but it was hilarious.

And honestly, it was tastier than I expected!

We ended up drinking until 5 AM that night and "cured" our hangovers at McDonald's.

(Looking back, I have no idea how I survived that schedule! lol)

I didn't know this at that time, but I later saw on a YouTube channel (Seojaero)

that Lithuania has some of the highest alcohol consumption rates in the world.

After that night, I totally believe it.

But don't get me wrong—we didn't just drink in Lithuania!

In the next post, I'll write about the places we actually visited.

The end~
